Four Tops: 50th Anniversary Anthology

Hip-O Records

4 stars

It would be difficult to put together a better collection of music by the Four Tops. There are a total of 48 songs on this two-disc set, featuring material ranging from their first hit “Baby I Need Your Loving” (1964) to their 1988 single “Indestructible.” On top of all 24 of their Top 40 pop hits, “Four Tops: 50th Anniversary Anthology” also includes several previously unreleased alternate mixes for the collector. (Such as a cleaned up version of the 1968 Top 20 single “Walk Away Renee” which features previously missing harmonies.) And for you film buffs, they’ve included “Back To School Again” from Grease 2 and “Mean Green Mother From Outer Space” from the 80s musical remake of Little Shop of Horrors (featuring Levi Stubbs, who also did the voice of the homicidal plant Audrey 2). This is a must have for Four Tops fans.
