Elvis Presley: From Elvis In Memphis

Legacy Recordings

3 stars (4/5 Elvis fans, 2.5/5 non-fans)

One month after the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll reclaimed his crown with the television broadcast of what is now known as the ’68 Comeback Special, Elvis Presley returned to Memphis, Tennessee to record. It was the first time he’d recorded in Memphis since his Sun sessions in 1955. Some of the songs from those sessions were featured on the LPs “From Elvis In Memphis” and “Back In Memphis”. This two CD set features ALL 32 songs recorded during those 1969 Memphis recording sessions, including Elvis’ versions of classics like “It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin”, “Gentle On My Mind”, “From A Jack To A King” and “Hey Jude”. Of particular interest to Elvis aficionados will be the original mono single masters of Elvis classics like “Suspicious Minds”, “In The Ghetto”, “Kentucky Rain” and the original version of “Rubberneckin”. While the casual Elvis listener may not appreciate some of the material on this 2-CD set, this is a must have for Elvis fans.
